About The Angler’s Field Guide

The Angler’s Field Guide is a website for everyday American anglers. We explain fishing gear, techniques, and seasonal strategies in plain language, so you can make better choices before you head out on the water.

What we cover

Our guides focus on three areas: gear buying guides, such as choosing a spinning reel or fishing line; freshwater strategies, including seasonal patterns for bass and trout; and techniques like knots and rigging. Saltwater guides are coming later.

How we research

We build each guide from manufacturer specifications and publicly available information, and we compare expert guides and buyer feedback to spot common strengths and problems. We weigh durability, weight, and ease of maintenance against price, and we check current state wildlife rules. Our guides are based on research, not hands-on product testing.

How we fund the site

The site is free to read. We may earn a commission when you buy through affiliate links, including links to Amazon.com, at no extra cost to you, and we may show advertising. You can read the details in our Affiliate Disclosure.

Fish responsibly

Fishing rules, licenses, and bag limits vary by state and water body, and they change. Always check with your local wildlife agency before you fish, and handle fish carefully if you plan to release them.
